Case Studies
Case Study One:
Finnigan
Finnigan was a 7 year old Shetland sheepdog. Its owners were having problems controlling his barking whenever someone came to the door. It had been incorrectly diagnosed as territorial aggression when in fact it was fear aggression.
Using techniques that had been tried and tested by Dog Guru we re created the environment with visitors and over a few weeks the dog learnt a new habit of sitting and waiting at the door. This was stress free to not only the owners but also the dog that was very stressed out.
This case study was seen with photos in Metpet magazine Issue 4, Spring 2007.
Case Study Two:
Pepper
Pepper was a 5 month old dog that had been purchased from a rescue shelter. Unfortunately this dog had not been well socialized so was aggressive towards anyone that not only came into the house but also walking along the road.
Using our experience we were able to determine exactly what the dog's behaviour problem was. We believe we are a company that strives on extra research. There is a strong chance that left unsolved this dog would have gone on to attack. We recommend a course of action for pepper which involved getting used to people and other problems that it was presented with.
4 weeks later Pepper came to one of our dog training classes. At first he was a little unsure how to handle so many people and dogs. However by the end of the class I was able to say hello to him and he was happily running around with some other dogs. In the house the owner had got the issues under control.
The future for pepper is very rosy indeed.
Case Study Three:
Britz
Britz was a 9 month old dalmation who the owners had said was bored while they were at work. Upon visiting the dog we diagnosed separation anxiety as the house was completely destroyed as the dog started reconstruction.
Separation anxiety is a dog behaviour problem we have worked with and studied extensively which is why we were able to help this dog. Within a few weeks this dog was able to be left in the house and had done no more damage to the house.
This is another serious problem and if treated incorrectly would have done serious damage to the dog.
Case Study Four:
Riley
Our dog Riley is a beautiful rescue Golden Lab who was headstrong, independent and had bad separation anxiety. We had a fair idea of dog training having owned an older dog, but we found Riley would just take it upon himself to fix everything!
Riley had a traumatic past before we got him so we needed to make sure that there were no harsh methods used in his training. We saw Dog Guru online and gave them a call.
We signed up for a standard Dog Guru Beginner Class and since then have done private training, more group training and even master classes – which are by invite only, so we are extremely pleased with his progress. He now comes when called, is still independent but now we know how to handle him in all situations we are not worried. Riley now concentrates more on us and will stand down when challenged by other dogs – something he never did.
Because of the expert training techniques of the team at Dog Guru, Riley is more relaxed and to be frank, so are we. Training with Dog Guru did not break Riley’s spirits; he is still the same handsome, boisterous Lab we adore but with recall, manners and obedience!
Big thanks to the team at Dog Guru
