Experience:
I have worked for the last four years as a zoo keeper, and this involved
training various animals. My main charges were three fantastic giraffes- a
combined 2 tonnes plus of sometimes stubborn, easily spooked herbivores.
Training these guys took alot of patience and I learned the importance of
consistency and the bond between human and animal. Wether lion, giraffe, porcupine,
llama or dog, the same training principals for training apply- the correct
motivation, consistency and trust are crucial.
Personal:
As a youngster, I was obsessed with wolves, and this passion transferred
easily to the wolves that we share our homes with- regardless of their size and
shape! This is probably reflected...at least superficially, by my dog- an
Alaskan malamute, 'Fen'. I had always been told that malamutes were a difficult
breed to train, and that they cannot be trusted off the leash or around cats. I
soon learned the opposite. Fen lived happily with my elderly cat for six years
and he is let off the leash almost every day! I learned that it is the effort
that we put in, not the breed, that makes the difference.
It is extremely rewarding seeing dogs respond to training and the relationship
between dog and owner growing stronger.
I look forward to working with you and your dog
